Berlin FIRST is team 155, the Techno-Nuts. We are made up of Middle School students, High School students and Mentors from Berlin, CT. The Berlin FIRST team designs, builds and programs a robot in six weeks, then competes at Regional and National Competitions. Last year was an exciting year competing in two regionals and becoming a finalist in Kenner, LA which gave us a spot at the Championship competition that was held in St. Louis. Our team has 17 students this year. Our team mascot is Nutty. This will be the 21st year Berlin has been part of the First Robotics program.
What is FIRST Robotics? First stands for Inspiration and recognition of science and technology. The FIRST Robotics Competition is an exciting, multi-national competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The program is a life-changing, career-molding experience—and a lot of fun. FIRST was started by Dean Kamen, in 1989 to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders. In the 2014 season, the competition is projected to reach 71,000 young people ages 14-18, there are 2850 teams and 17,000+ mentors and adult supporters. This year there are 36 district competitions, 54 regional events, 4 state/championships and 1 championship. In 2013, teams from 50 states and 17 countries including Australia and China participated and team members were eligible for more than 16 million in college scholarships. New members are always welcome, and building occurs at night or on weekends at McGee Middle School. Learn more
